IAN’S STORY – 1986
This sad and confronting article was written by Ian Parker in 1986 whilst an inpatient at Lakeside Psychiatric Hospital Wendouree on the north -west fringe of Ballarat, Victoria and was printed for all to read in the Lakeside Psychiatric Hospital Newsletter.
The Lakeside Mental Hospital was originally known as Ballarat Asylum and later as Ballarat Hospital for the Insane before the latter naming of Lakeside Psychiatric Hospital before it’s closure.
Personal Experiences
In the last nine years I have been imprisoned three times and placed in Psychiatric Institutions 17 times.
I guess that is some form of qualification?! All incarcerations have been against my will and all except one, the authorities of this world would attribute to manic episodes, part of the cycle of manic depressive psychosis.
Such punctuations in the normal flow of life at times can be rather devastating to one’s self-esteem and self perception.
